The biggest reason to stay healthy during the fall months is to avoid the flu and other illnesses. We hope these tips will help keep your immune system healthy and keep you from getting sick.

Healthy foods to eat during the winter

Eat fruits and veggies that are rich in vitamin C such, as sweet potatoes, tomatoes, red peppers, and citrus fruits. These will give you high energy and keep you from getting sick. Some other vegetables that are high in vitamin C are broccoli and cauliflower.

Having different kinds of soup on hand is a great way to stay healthy, or to enjoy if you do get sick. Different kinds of soup such as chicken noodle, tomato, clam chowder, and potato soup will all warm you up on even the chilliest fall days. All of these will help keep you from getting sick, or if you become sick it will help make you feel better instead of being miserable in your sickness.

Wash your hands!

As it’s getting colder, more people will start to get sick and germs will spread. Make sure to wash your hands at least before and after you eat, but also if you’ve been in close contact with a lot of people as well. It also doesn’t hurt to keep hand sanitizer on hand for when you can’t get to the sink.

Work it out

It’s important to get enough exercise during to keep your immune system healthy. By going for walks and moving each day, you’re more likely to stay healthy while others are combating illnesses.

Calm down

Doctors have now discovered that chronic mental stress is linked to a higher rate of physical illness. If you are stressed out, relieve this stress the best way you know how. Try reading a new book, meditating, going to the gym or hiking, or sleeping. Managing the stressors in your life can go a long way in protecting your health.

Enjoy a delicious piece of pumpkin pie with a big dollop of whipped cream on top? We’ve got some recipes you’ll enjoy! Here are some of our favorite pumpkin pie recipes that we make every fall season.

Pumpkin pie is a classic in our household. Everyone knows the season is really starting when they smell the sweetness of pumpkin pie radiate through the house. For a classic, perfect pumpkin pie recipe, look no further!

For those of you that still want to enjoy the pumpkin spice but think it’s a little too flavorful, here is an option for pumpkin pie that’s on the lighter side, but still plenty of flavor to go along with it.  The overall intensity of the flavor won’t be as strong but you’ll still get that flavor you’re looking forward to welcome in October.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy pumpkin pie recipe, this is the right recipe for you. This recipe only requires five ingredients to make so it’s super convenient.  It takes the stress out of baking and makes it fun and easy for even your most stressful days. This recipe could be the alternative to quicker and faster food instead of having to bake all day and prepare for the time to make it.

This recipe is a little different than your classic pie. It’s pumpkin cheesecake, so maybe it’s something that you’re not quite used to. This is a little on the heavier side, but still a delicious cheesecake to try and make for the family, friends or coworkers in your life. Trying new recipes doesn’t hurt, just be creative and enjoy this time of the year.

Don’t lose that summer body you worked so hard for now that fall is here! Sure, we can agree that covering up in sweatshirts and sweaters can be more comfortable, but that doesn’t mean that you have to gain any extra pounds in the process. Here are some great ideas for some healthy Halloween party alternatives.

Caramel apples are a great way to bring in the Halloween season.  With the sweetness of the caramel on the outside, the tart of the apple on the inside makes this sweet treat that much better, while still including fruit! Check out our Harvest Apple Bin Specials to see what’s in our market.

Popcorn also makes a nice alternative to other salty snacks like chips. Popcorn is not only less in calories, but you can easily make it at home. We also carry fresh, locally made popcorn in our market in case you don’t feel like making some.

Fight off the urge for candy with a healthy smoothie instead! Smoothies are great on-the-go filling snacks or meals that keep you full and can include lots of fruits and vegetables, like apples and pumpkin, that are great this time of year.

Dip, dip, dip! Get your protein and healthy food in by dipping some of your favorites in peanut butter or hummus! Bananas, apples and celery all go great with some smooth or crunchy peanut butter (or almond butter too). Or if you aren’t into sweet fruits, veggies like broccoli and carrots pair well in hummus.
